President Bush has ordered a domestic Spy Program to see who are making terrorist plans or communicating with terrorist. I mean that is a good idea, but people’s privacy are being violated which is total disrespect. I personally think he should find another way of trapping these terrorists and their evil plots. Do you agree or disagree? How would you feel if the President and his secret services are listening in on your phone calls and checking your emails, etc., I would feel very violated.
President Bush signed a secret order in 2002 authorizing the National Security Agency to snoop on U.S. citizens and foreign nationals in the United States, regardless of prior legal disagreements against domestic spying. The aim of the program was to constantly monitor the phone calls and other communications of people in the United States who were believed to have contact with suspected links of al Qaeda and other terrorist groups overseas, according to two former senior government officials. Authorities, including a former NSA director, Gen. Michael V. Hayden, were worried that critical information could be lost in the time it took to secure a warrant from a special surveillance court.
Even some of the government officials are disappointed about this decision such as Caroline Fedrickson who said "It's clear that the administration has been very willing to sacrifice civil liberties in its effort to exercise its authority on terrorism, to the extent that it authorizes criminal activity," Fredrickson said.
This is an issue that needs some rethinking because it does not make sense to violate the citizens of U.S.’s privacy and I’m sure President Bush can find a different way to catch these people.
