By time we know, we will use our whole paycheck to buy a metro card at the rate the prices keep increasing.
The base fare for subway and bus rides will remain at $2. The cost of unlimited-ride metro cards will increase to $81, up from $76, for the monthly, it will rise to $25, from $24, for the weekly pass. The authority is also introducing a new $47 card that offers unlimited rides for 14 days.
Governor Spitzer told the MTA to use the unexpected extra $220 million in the agency's assets to keep the base bus and subway fare at $2, rather than raise it to $2.25 next year, as planned. This raise in transit fare is getting crazy especially since that the trains are not always reliable. There are always problems with NYC transit.
To me personally if the government wants to rise up prices, they need to make improvements with things that deal with our daily commute. They might as well use for the money for something useful instead of wasting it on weapons. They should use this money to improve the platforms, train tracks, the trains itself, the odor in the train stations. If the government don’t do it then who will?
